Liangjiehe Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Northeast corner of Guizhou border with Hunan. The Liangjiehe Fm was named by the No. 108 Team of Guizhou Bureau of Geology in 1960 and formally published in 1975 (Geology and Mineral Research, 1975 supplement). The typical section is situated in the Liangjie River valley in Songtao County, Guizhou Province.
Synonym: (两界河组)
Lithology and Thickness
The definition of the Liangjiehe Fm has been revised as representing a suite of medium- to coarse-grained marine clastic deposits. The Liangjiehe Formation is dominantly composed of greenish gray and gray greywacke, feldspathic litharenite and conglomerate. The basal part is light grayish green silty conglomerate and dolomitic conglomerate, occasionally bearing dolomite. The thickness of the Liangjiehe Formation varies from several meters to 390 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It rests unconformably or disconformably on the Xiajiang Gr (Fanzhao Fm) in West Fanjing Mtn. (northeast corner of Guizhou border with Hunan), or the Banxi Gr (Longli Fm) in East Fanjing Mtn (Hunan side of border).
Upper contact
It is disconformably overlain by the Tiesi'ao Fm. However, the schematic stratigraphic column of this NE Guizhou region (columns 52, 53) indicate that it is overlain by the widespread Gucheng Fm of early Cryogenian.
Regional extent
Northeast corner of Guizhou; West Fanjiang Mtn. With a variable lithology and thickness, this formation is mainly distributed around Songtao and Yinjiang counties. Its upper part in Yanglizhang and Dawu of Songtao County has an increasing pelitic component and bears tuffaceous beds.
